I never got it either. He even got a BAFTA. *shrugs*

I guess it's because the protagonists are heavily on the grey side in this interpretation? In the very first episode, Sherlock tortures a name out of a dying man; I supposed to have a real villain, you have to up the ante.

Oh yes. He even won against Stephen Rea as Gatehouse in The Shadow Line, which was just wrong.
