I'm totally with you, OP. If I have to suffer through 50 Shades of Grey in order to criticize it past "it's not my thing" then so do you (general you). My biggest pet peeve is when they say they read other negative reviews about it on the internet so that means they understand it enough to criticize it. Yeah, no. At least try to be open-minded. I think saying something isn't your thing is a perfectly acceptable reason to not like something, but you can't turn around and hate on something you haven't given a fair chance.

I am guilty of this with 5SoG. :( I hate on it constantly, without any real justification because I have never read it and have no intention of doing so.

I sincerely apologise and I salute your suffering in the name of 'knowing what the hell you're talking about'.

ayrt

Hey, at least you're honest about it. I think all people want is for others to recognize that their opinion on the subject isn't well-informed and therefore not as credible as someone's who has seen/read/listened to the subject in question (of course, that doesn't mean the well-informed person can't be wrong either).

i kind of agree

i've read enough about 50 shades and have seen and heard so many excerpts from it that i feel comfortable in judging a little deeper than that, but reviewing it or pretending to have more knowledge of the plot beyond "wow this book sure gets pretty gross" would definitely be stupid and unfair
