I agree with this to an extent: if people have done enough research on said piece of media to form a coherent argument against it, I feel that it counts. Granted, this really only applies to horrible shitfests like Twilight and its spinoff just because they are so objectively bad that sometimes the only way to experience it is second-hand via in-depth sporkings and reviews.

But then again, my partner is the masochist and experiences shitty media first-hand just so he has this leg to stand on, so I get to hear all about how bad it is and why straight from him. It's like my own personal reader's digest. And I get to get into the arguments over the internet about it all so he doesn't have to. It's a win-win situation! ...sort of.

If you do enough "research" to be able to talk about the thing with credibility you might as well just watch/read/listen to it.

I have a billion friends that talk my ear off about Doctor Who, and I've seen a few episodes. Yet people still think I'm qualified to talk about Doctor Who with... except I know nothing, and the show does NOT appeal to me.
