Re: OP
I specified the SJWs the radical people. The people who yell and threaten and hurt. Not SJ all by itself.
But everyone on the planet (practically) agrees that bullying is wrong. Bullies suck! And they are in every community, especially on the internet. Including the vocal anti-SJW contingent, who I've seen bully people right here on this forum, then cry bloody murder when the "SJWs" do it to them.
So what the fuck exactly is the point of the "help help I'm being oppressed by the SJWs, those evil horrible bullies!" when you mean "gee, bullies suck".
Yeah, that's, uh, not exactly a secret there, champ. Mean people suck. News at 11.
Re: OP
(Anonymous) 2013-05-16 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)This whole secret is meant as nothing but "being an activist is great is great , but it's no excuse to be a jerk and you won't get away with things because you decide to call yourself an activist".
Would you quit fucking saying that I'm claiming to be 'oppressed'. I never said that. All I said was "quit acting like assholes" to a small faction of people who are in fact acting like assholes (ie: Redd , Riley and the people who act like them and yell at everyone they come in contact with who doesn't agree)
Hell, I didn't even target all of SJ ,just the group that was the loudest and rudest, but still somehow kept getting people saying "oh they mean well" . I'm not at all saying that I'm "oppressed" by activists as a whole at all. You used that word, not me.
Re: OP
You might not have, but plenty of other anti-SJWs surrrrrreee have.
All I said was "quit acting like assholes" to a small faction of people who are in fact acting like assholes
Yep, assholes suck too. Like bullies, and mean people. And, unfortunately, every single group or community - from SJWs to anti-SJWs to games to mpreg authors - has assholes, bullies, and mean people.
SJWs use advocacy to excuse that behaviour; anti-SJWs use "freedom of speech" or "it's just a joke" or "have a right to my opinion" to excuse that behaviour. Shitty people, all around.
Why am I supposed to take your side on this one? Because SJWs have some mean people that suck? F!S itself has mean people who suck. I'm not going to rail against the community, then go "oh, sorry, I said F!S but what I meant was the mean people on F!S".
Because, no shit comrade, mean people are bad.
Re: OP
(Anonymous) 2013-05-16 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)In fact I'm hoping that calling attention to this by getting people to recognize that the bullying and bad behavior is bad and discouraging people from giving people like Riley what they want-asspats and positive attention, Social Justice can actually be taken seriously by more people.
I'm hoping that maybe if people approached those who said wrong things in ignorance with rationality-and thus we could actually reach MORE people. (My opinion if someone says something in ignorance and then continues to be rude when corrected than being blunt and calling them a bigot would be acceptable. Not "could you explain exactly what privilege means so I can properly understa-" "OH SHUT UP YOU RACIST/SEXIST/HOMOPHOBE. IF YOU HAVE TO ASK YOU ARE PRIVILEGED . JUST DIE PAINFULLY"
or
"Hey, I'm curious about you cause, could you explain *term*?" "Oh my God just google it, it' not my job to educate you, you lazy piece of shit" )
(protip: when people politely ask for clarification, it tends to mean (if they're sincere and interested) that are interested in hearing YOU explain so they can get YOUR perspective. Telling them to go Google it or look it up on Wikipedia robs you of the chance to maybe convince someone to see your perspective")
I have a group of friends who take the more logical and calm approach and as a result I've come to understand a lot about social issues and thus support them. because yes I know i'm privileged and was very sheltered/naive.
All I learned from the people who yell and call names at anyone who questions them is to feel to defensive because they made me feel shitty about myself.
