Well first off it's impossible to even compare these two IMO since one of these characters isn't even a book character in the first place. The stuff that happened to Theon already happened in the book (I haven't gotten past the third book so apparently they are described in flashbacks which does make these scenes pretty pointless and gratuitous at this point, it's like, "ok, we know", in my opinion). The writers of this show had a choice of how to deal with Ros' character and if they wanted to write her out of the show they could've chosen a different way.

Also, Theon isn't dead at this point PLEASE TELL ME HE DOESN'T DIE no wait don't I don't want to be spoiled, he is my favorite

We see the after-effects of Theon's torture and how it effects him but we don't see a whole lot of the torture itself.

For example his castration is something that's vaguely implied but never explicitly stated in the actual text.

he's my favorite in the books too but i just can't get into hbo theon as much, but i still like him a lot and sigh yeah this is just beyond the line of "too much"

Book Theon and tv show Theon are like two different interpretations of the same character imo but they are both my favorite, I don't know why. I like Alfie Allen's portrayal of the character but yeah, it's different. Book Theon is more of a snarky cynical dude and tv Theon is mostly just a pathetic loser. My interpretation anyway (also they look nothing alike)
