I don't know why, but this post reminded me how much fun our school's annual "auto show" was. (Also why are all the only good vocational programs in poor high schools IDGI)

I think going to a majority minority high school is also the reason why I feel more comfortable when I'm the only white person, or one of the only white people in a group (or maybe just why I freak the fuck out when I'm surrounded by other white people)

I think it's also my seething hatred for suburbs and yes, I know that satellite cities and suburbs aren't completely white but they lack the diversity of cities and well, there's no other way to put it other than "white flight". I get so annoyed when WASPy co-workers try to justify the fact that they commute an hour to work every day from outside the city as "well the property is cheaper out there". A) It isn't, they just can't live in "certain" neighborhoods and B) can't deal with living in a smaller house or apartment. It's not just white people, I mean, my cousin-in-law does this and when we had Christmas at her house last year I felt physically ill being in her house because it was just so unnecessarily HUGE, with huge ceilings for no reason, and it had this feeling of being too empty. I guess this is why Americans buy so much crap they don't need, to fill up huge empty houses they don't need.
