Both statements are true.

Some radical people who might identify (falsely) as feminists do hate men though. And misandry still isn't a thing.

So "no true Scotsman" then?

(Anonymous) 2013-05-17 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think so. "Feminist" is a label you give yourself, and relates to beliefs, but not anything necessarily tangible. The fallacy comes from being something (such as an orange) while having people try to claim you're not based on their beliefs ("all oranges are orange!" "i'm not" "then you're not an orange").

I'm saying these people identify as feminists but do nothing a feminist would do. It's calling a cat a dog; they are obviously different.

I hate this stupid argument. My mother uses it all the time when talking about Christianity, claiming that all Christian churches/groups that do crappy things "aren't really Christians" because those crappy things aren't really Christian. It's such a stupid, pointless argument.

I take it that's a swipe at me?

Because I believe X and you believe Y that means you know me, and can assess my worth as a feminist?

I help battered and raped women at shelters in my spare time, but no, you're right, I don't really care about womens righs because I disagree with some asshole online.

hi can you not use rape and abuse survivors as street cred

we're not fucking ribbons for you to wave at the world to strengthen your argument

(Anonymous) 2013-05-18 11:37 am (UTC)(link)
That wasn't their point but, oh please, take a few words and make a big deal out of it. That person wasn't using survivors as cred or ribbons. That person was pointing out they GIVE A FUCK.

Calm your fucking ass down and learn to read.

shut up.

they are saying they are qualified to talk about rape because they have worked with rape survivors. make your own damn arguments and positions without using us as props. I'm not your black friend and I'm not your charity case you're oh-so-sensitive and knowledgeable for working with. if one of my therapists or counsellors was using me to win internet arguments, that would be a violation of our relationship and an exploitation and co-opting of my experiences
