Re: Minor things that people get wrong in fic all the time

It is a bit of a broader things, but basically when people generalize american things to happen everywhere. Like people in the UK for example being unable to go to the hospital cause they are not insured, or american high school set ups for stuff happening in schools outside of the US. (Prom in japanese high schools, that sorta thing)

If it makes you feel better, Japanese fic has Japanese shit happening in American/Western settings all the time. Like Japanese "Christmas cake" (the kind with whipped cream and strawberries) instead of the kind we actually eat (the nut and cherry log that could survive a nuclear holocaust). Or senpai/kouhai organization in schools. Even people wearing yukata in the summertime for no reason.

I remember this one time I had to drag the characters into an American high school AU and make up a bunch of OCs to populate the supporting cast just because the prompt I was working with asked for these guys to go to prom. I wasn't happy with the resulting fic at all after jumping through so many hoops, so now I think maybe I should've just gone with a special snowflake Japanese prom.
