They're a couple of troubled, socially awkward guys who spend too much time playing online games. By which I mean 'using games to kick ass and save the entire world'. They pull each other out of some bad places, and one is canonically head over heels for the other - plus there's an option for them to get online-married at the end of the story. IMO they make a unique, complimetary and really sweet pair.

It's from a series of PS2 games called .hack//G.U. The characters are Haseo (angry teenager who PvPs people to try and save his comatose friend) and Endrance (lonely shut-in who doesn't like anyone except Haseo and cats).
