Objectification...

(Anonymous) 2013-05-17 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
I'm lost. So everyone's upset because GOT shows a lot of boobies... but isn't the male cast constantly half naked, too?

From where I'm sitting, it's going both ways. The naked women appeal to the men (or lesbians) and the naked men appeal to the ladies (or gay men).

So what's the problem? Is it another double standards thing?

To be fair there's far less male nudity than there is female nudity. And there's been like two peen shots in the entire show from, most of which are in less than desirable circumstances (Hodor dick and the guy who's being dragged by the Dothraki). Full-frontal female nudity on the other hand is fairly common.

Like last episode we saw Robb's butt for two seconds whereas his wife (forgot her name) was nude for the entire scene.

Far, far, far less male nudity, and even less full frontal male nudity. This isn't just an impression - Jezebel does a count for each episode - this is objectively true.
ext_81845: amuro ray from mobile suit gundam, in his underwear, from the doan's island episode (WTF?!)

Last episode had a sex scene between Robb and I-forget-her-name (sorry) and she was naked on screen the entire time, Robb covered up pretty much right after having sex. They lingered on his naked body for maybe 30 seconds. Not that I'm complaining since I don't find that actor attractive. I'm not really into muscly dudes with six packs, but still, the double standard there is clear

I recently marathoned Spartacus and holy crap after watching that, the objectification in GOT is really fucking apparent. Notice the women in GOT rarely have body hair, either (Osha's actress asked to be allowed pubic hair and was told no one wanted to see that).

Compare that to Spartacus which has a GREAT deal of male frontal nudity and almost every female character who gets naked having pubic hair...

Who knew Starz would win out against HBO?

I want some dicks to offset the number of tits. I like tits as much as boobs, but in terms of sheer numbers, way more boob shots than junk shots.

...To put that very bluntly.
