My mom says I don't look at her when I'm lying. She's known me for 19 years and never realized that I just don't like to look at people when I talk to them? Dumbass.

My mom tried to argue that I wouldn't be so upset by her (false) accusations if they weren't true. So I feel you. Parents have a tendency to only see and believe what they want to, and it sucks for the kids that get caught up in their belligerent ignorance.

(I also get not looking at people when talking to them - it feels way too intimate to me if it's for any longer than, say, listening to a customer request or something.)

Yeah, and I bet she'd be perfectly content to be accused of something she didn't do. *eyeroll* I may never understand why [some] parents don't listen to simple reason. None of my biology classes ever mentioned an "I'm always right" gene that activates upon giving birth.

My mom has been telling me about my "I'm lying!" face for so long that it's a habit for her. She's never realized that I schooled it before middle school and she hasn't ever caught me in lie since then. But sometimes she's convinced she has, anyway. I only lie to her about dating, so I don't really feel bad, but I still find it amusing. (I don't date but it's easier to just make up pretend dates than listen to the "What's wrong with you?!" lecture yet again)

Because your love life is totally her business, right? Ugh. I get that a lot from mine too. She assumes I'm socially impaired because I don't have a million friends and go to parties every weekend. Newsflash, moms: some of us like being alone. (Others are actively looking for friends/dates and your criticism might be sapping their self-esteem over it, so either way you're not helping.)

You're the one who can't show people the common courtesy of looking at them when you speak to them, and SHE'S the dumbass?

Common courtesy? More like creepy.
