[Tara Strong, John de Lancie]

Hey, you know, lay off John de Lancie.

Maybe he's a dumbass about this, but the man played Q.

Q!

(Anonymous) 2013-05-17 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I pretty much agree. There's nothing wrong with liking MLP: it's a cute, entertaining show that usually has good messages for children. But I find it uncomfortable when Tara Strong and John de Lancie talk about how amazing bronies are. Especially as they usually ignore adult female fans (a minute interlude in a song in the Bronydoc does not count as female representation, Tara Strong) and ignore the darker side of the 'brony' fandom too. I feel that they, as celebrities involved with the show, could have a great affect by stating that they don't agree with some actions of bronies (i.e rape jokes, making sexual jokes about underage characters at conventions, getting pissy when porn isn't allowed at conventions touted as 'family friendly' etc) instead of whitewashing the fandom as a whole and touting them as perfect becuase *shock, horror* they're men who like something traditionally feminine!

Ah, Bronydoc lost all my respect when they took down Combuskenisawesome's Youtube poop of it when you consider there's never been a genuine Hasbro takedown of a MLP fanvideo (FIW was a false DMCA claim).

John de Lancie panders to niche fandoms?!

I'm shocked - shocked! - to discover that fanservice and pandering is going on here.

Thank you! It's of The Smiler.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-18 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
He voices a character on the show.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-20 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
He looks like a cow furry in this one. Aren't the cows the ponies' slaves in the show?

(Anonymous) 2013-05-18 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Ok, I don't agree with the brony hate (A group can not be judged by the worst of the people who adopt the name, etc) but I really do try to be understanding about it. I do occasionally engage OG and those in her camp, but I really do like to think I'm calm, understanding and in the end accepting that her opinions are valid, even if I continue to disagree.

To sum up, I like to think I can be mature about the 'Bronies Are Evil' debate

That said: BACK THE FUCK OFF TARA STRONG. She's a fucking superhero, and I will NOT be tollerant people slining shit at her.

I. WIL. FUCK. YOU. UP.

I'm not even kidding. I will FIND you OP. I. WILL. FIND. YOU.

This is a really creepy comment.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-18 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Dammit. I wasn't sure if it was comming across properly: I was supposed to be creepy, but I hoped it came across more... funny creepy than seriously creepy.

Getting tone on the internet is a bastard.

I get the impression they just love fandom. Any and all fandoms. JdL certainly does, I remember reading an interview with him where he said he chooses roles based on how active the fandom of the show is so he can get involved.

It's more like how Tara is the Brony Queen, he's the Brony Professor.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-18 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah no you are projecting really hard here OP neither of them has said anything about all bronys and both have answered questions about dealing with insane fans in the past. both before and after the pony fandom came along.

Both Tara and John have experience with fandom, Mr. De Lancie specifically has dealt with the Star Trek fandom for over a decade so I seriously doubt anything the bronys (Bronies? what the hell is the plural of this word) can throw at him will phase him that much. Really this is going to make me feel old, but I was in the Trek fandom pretty hardcore from the 80's to early 90's and the crap I saw at conventions was pretty shocking at the time, but I learned to deal with it over time and honestly even the stuff I see modern fandoms get up to is almost always just rehashes of I saw at conventions 20 years ago. Trust me, those crazy people were around before the internet came into being, the internet just gave them a soapbox and a spotlight to use.

While this doesn't pertain directly to the secret I am going to admit I'm getting pretty fed up with the anti-brony people who seem to have become as annoying and insistent as the rabid bronies they proclaim to despise so much. On my favorite forum hangout we've got one designated pony thread and i haven't seen a single pony topic outside that thread in the last year that wasn't posted by some poster wanting to rant about how some incredibly stupid thing obviously makes bronies the worst thing to ever happen to the internet in the history of ever. I believe the last one was a poster talking about how forum members with pony avatars counted as "shoving the fandom down his throat".

There are some bronys that need to get the hell over themselves and realize that they aren't that special, I ran into it with the Trek fandom in the 80's early 90's who thought their fandom was so unique and special and everybody in it should treat it as a lifestyle choice to base their identity around it was stupid then and it's stupid now so cut it out.

Wow that was a lot of rambling, but yeah OP they are both old hats at dealing with fans, so I seriously doubt they think all bronys are super special awesome, they just aren't a few douchenozzles ruin their fun and paychecks from the rest of the group who are just trying to have fun.

[personal profile] ex_mek82 2013-05-18 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think in the grand scheme of fandom, the Trek fans have probably done far more interesting stuff than Bronies have, so to someone like deLancie, nothing would surprise/scandalize him anymore. Besides, after hearing about the Unicon disaster earlier this year, deLancie got my respect for the way he helped out the people who were left holding the burning bag, when he and his agent could have simply taken what money was there and ran.

"but I learned to deal with it over time and honestly even the stuff I see modern fandoms get up to is almost always just rehashes of I saw at conventions 20 years ago. Ah'yup. It's all "the more things change, the more they stay the same". Besides, I'm pretty sure there was some just as awful goings on in the Star Trek fandom back in its heyday... but its only documentation is second-hand recounts/word of mouth.
