(I've only seen a few episodes. Seeing as how I'm 20 years outside their demographic it's odd that I've seen it at all, but my friend's 2 year old son likes it.)

I have a serious problem with the fact that royals are treated so much differently. Which, duh, but still. They seem to be the only ones doing magic (outside of magical families) and making gem stones is a spell for small children. Wtf? How does this economy work? This land is so stuffed full of royalty how do they support their kingdom? And I don't like how everyone special is a princess. Like, I know it's Disney and they love them some princesses but come on! Can't she get a "commoner" friend or something?

Again, I haven't watched the show. But I don't plan to, outside of babysitting, because part of my 'Murican identity is hating the philosophy that political power over others is an inheritable commodity.

Maybe I wouldn't be so bothered if the show stressed her duty to her people or something. This doesn't even bother me in actual Disney movies because the protagonists are usually going through some drastic change so I can imagine them needing to put off their duties until they deal with the sleeping spell/death by step-mother. Or the story is about how they become princesses. Which is different. I guess.

I'm pretty sure that's not just an American thing - tons of other countries revolted against aristocratic/monarchy governments. Some of them infamously so. Plus, you actually can make a case for the US having had it's own version of aristocracy for quite some time after the revolution considering it was white, land-owning [and therefore rich, and inherited 9 out of 10 times considering how marriages were kept to the same class most of the time] males.

I guess you could make the argument that sometimes people did marry into the class/make the money to get into it but...People married into aristocracy, or bought titles too.

I've never actually seen the show, but the whole princess thing could depend since there were some monarchies where the title 'princess' was used for any female that was related to the King via descent with different ranks depending on how far back that ancestor was until it was finally distant enough that they lost the title. For example, someone whose great grandfather was the king would be a princess of a certain [probably lower] rank, where as someone whose father was/is king would be a princess of the highest rank - or close to it. Needless to say most of the monarchies I've seen set up like this are obsessed with rank. So...yeah. Kinda silly for a tv show, but it's not completely unrealistic either.
