Fact is, BC nailed it.
OK his skin is the wrong colour, but in all other regards he fucking nailed is as Kahn.

The right actor for the job is more important than the right skin for the job, imo.

Oh, and I'm not an excessive Cumberbitch or anything, I just think he did a great job.

this. he was a great kahn imo. he was evil, menacing, cunning, and kinda scary at times because he is so much more powerful than most of the people around him. but he also made me feel for him and his situation.

BC gave him dimension and that is important to me because i'd be more insulted if they got the character wrong when so much of the plot is centered around them.

that and tumblr would be bitching about this even if they had picked an actor that wasn't white. as a few anons have already pointed out, it would then be about "a poc as a villian getting defeated by a bunch of white guys". so, yeah, STID has it's flaws but i still enjoyed it and i think they picked the right actor for the role.

As someone who just saw it, I disagree. I have no idea where all the worshippy praise is coming from. He was just like any other cookie-cutter villain.

I find very little difference between him and Nero from the 2009 movie.

The right actor for the job is more important than the right skin for the job, imo.

Funny how 90% of the time it turns out being that "the right actor" is white as fuck.

Eric Bana was terrible though, whereas BC put in a really good performance, I loved it but of course I get that some people may not, quality of acting wise though, it was just leagues ahead. Eric Bana could hardly be bothered, sometimes he's OK but sometimes it feels like no one taught him about acting.

I know Will Smith was supposed to play Neo but turned it down.

Speaking of Will Smith, Wild Wild West (though a bad movie), Smith's character was white on the original TV show it was "based" off of (never saw the show so I have no idea how close it comes to it, but I'm assuming not at all).

I'm not ignoring the whitewashing in Hollywood, but I feel in some cases, actors are cast just because of how popular and marketable they are at the time.

I think that's the reality in all cases, Hollywood is all about money. You have to get your film funded, usually there are actors attached who also bring in the money from the production companies.

Not saying it's right, more just your point that the actors are chosen for commercial reasons rather than anything else.
