Superiority of race aside...if you start mixing genes up altogether to try to get perfection, you're bound to get some of the genes that control skin color in there.

It's pretty much been proved impossible for a child of mixed parentage to be darker than, or even the same skintone as, a its darkest-toned parent. (http://multiracial.com/site/content/view/459/27/)

So, in theory, if you mix enough genes around you're going to end up with white, and since the Star Trek reboot is a typically grimdark world for this era of filmmaking, nu!Khan probably never saw enough of the sun to get a tan. Therefore, his being white makes perfect sense.

normally i don't comment this late but this makes no damn sense. how does mixed children not being as dark as one of their parents mean that eventually you will end up with white if you mix a lot of genes

there is no "race gene" either so this

this just

no

Because the automatic response if you're not mixing dark-dark is to lighten the skin. Given that there are a LOT more light-skinned people in the world than dark-skinned, especially in the socioeconomic circles, nationally-speaking, to have the money to be put into a genetic pool, that means that any baby will tend towards light-skinned.

There is no race, period. It's a construct. Skin-color, however, is impacted by 3 genes. Who all naturally tend towards dilution.

The child of a light-dark combination is also not going to be as LIGHT as its light-skinned parent. You might be thinking of it as lightening up the dark skin, but it's also darkening up the light skin. The melanin is dominant, like it or not, and child of mixed color parentage will often retain the ability to produce a fair amount of melanin under the right stimulus. There's no reason for Khan to be that pale, and he should tan really well.

the majority of the world population is from south and east asia so if you wanna go that route your outcome would probably still not look like cumby

depends on what you think of as "white" i guess

but this:

especially in the socioeconomic circles, nationally-speaking, to have the money to be put into a genetic pool, that means that any baby will tend towards light-skinned.

....hold up, so did people pay to be in this genetic pool? i don't understand

dear god i haven't even seen this movie yet and i'm already wrapped up in the wank

(Anonymous) 2013-05-18 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
'Naturally tend toward dilution' my ass. There are way more darker-skinned people than light in the world, the genetic stock of the Star Treks Eugenics movement was heavily drawn from Asian and Middle Eastern populations, including the South Asian people, and MELANIN PRODUCTION IS THE DOMINANT TRAIT. The kids will never be bleachy cross-burning white. Seriously, you are one racist fuckhole.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-18 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Your argument falls apart with the realization that the child will never be whiter than the lightest skinned parent either.

I read somewhere that in a few hundred thousand generations everyone will be the same light brownish colour due to an evening out of all the skintones, but I can't for the life of me remember where I read that.

Mixed race people are going to look white so long as their genes are optimized! science is on cumberbatch's side, what a relief!

(Anonymous) 2013-05-20 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know how looking white is supposed to count as optimized. It just means more damn skin cancer.
