But usually it cheers me up if the characters in question are from one of my fandoms, so perhaps this is the point? When one sees (fictional) people they like doing happy things, it makes one a bit happier.
Sometimes it may also be hilarious, I suppose, especially if the scene is taken out of context.

Paying all that much for a dress and a ticket was just... meh.
I had better things to spend the money on. And my friends that did go said it was shit, and didn't have my taste in music, anyway.
At least going out to clubs as an adult, I can get trashed enough to let loose, and not have to pay any extra for an outfit that will only be worn once.

But eh, makes em happy, so whatever. I've never actually gotten the fuss over prom anyway.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-18 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)How it worked is that they pick a day, and the characters have to decide who they're going with (including asking them out in a specific way) and what they're wearing (including actual or photoshopped pictures of the actors). Then some people do threads with their characters' dates/friends set at the dance.
Here is the tumblr prom tag
(Anonymous) 2013-05-18 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)As long as they're all having fun, I guess...

(Anonymous) 2013-05-18 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)And best of all: others are doing it as well, so you will feel less awkward for wanting to RP such a silly fantasy.

- do a lot of cliche things like dancing, romancing, kissing that a lot of people dig
- tends to be a good and easy way for a lot of different ask blogs to interact seeing as the premise pushes towards that. meaning for people who are shyer and wouldn't normally outta the blue approach another ask-blog with theirs, they can feel like this is a good jump point for doing so.

One invited her former archenemy (now redeemed, they're both married to different people and well past prom age) for kicks and giggles, it was nonsensical enough for her taste. The other indulged the girl who has a crush on him and is questioning his decision because he doesn't want to give her false expectations.
I think these are two fun situations to play out. And there's myriads of other possibilities for every RP account out there. I've seen some lackluster threading but also quality, IC stuff. Same as with any other kind of RPing!
