I didn't have anything against Riley, which seems to be an unpopular opinion in the fandom. Then again, I wasn't particularly wedded to her relationship with Angel, so I was kind of happy to see her move on, and Riley was nice. I did think they kind of shafted his character later on, though.

Yes, pretty much this. Also I found myself liking Riley (and season 4 in general) more and more as time went on.

I actually both liked Angel and Riley. I will always prefer her with Angel, but they both know that's a relationship that can go nowhere. I thought Riley was fine in season 4, to be honest. I never got the hate.
