Is it strong? carbonated? sweet? delicious? disgusting? any similes come to mind?

I don't drink alcohol because my roommate is recovering addict and I don't have time to go out much. I'm happy to support her, but I've always been curious what it tastes like.

Eegh. Tequila is the one I can't stand. I can tell it's not actually disgusting, but for whatever reason my taste buds are not fans. I find it cloying and...sort of sharp, in a way my brain doesn't expect, and even in a should-be-tasty margarita it pulls me away from the fruity flavor of the drink. Totally personal preference, but I hates it.

I think it has kind of an inexplicable citrus tinge to it? Otherwise, it's basically like vodka that tastes a bit less like burning.

Like vodka, tequila doesn't taste much like anything. It mostly just burns due to the amount of alcohol. If anything, it reminds me of how I imagine raw potatoes must taste like, but I've never tasted a raw potato, so that's probably not very accurate.

But if you drink it without mixing it or eating a lemon/orange after, the only taste that's left in your mouth is the burn of strong alcohol, if you know what I mean.

This is totally TOTALLY wrong. You must've been drinking some real shitty tequila.

It's... tough to describe, I guess. First of all, like liquor. After that it's a bit sweet, a bit citrusy, and almost an herbal flavor.

Ooh, I love tequila, it's one of my favorite liquors, but I'm having a hard time putting it into words. The alcohol burn, obviously, but kind of bright and brassy after that, almost like a bit of a copper taste mixed in with the citrus. Does that make sense?

This is a pretty good description, I don't think the herbal feel is "rotten" or bad or anything, but I've never had 1800 before. Because of the burn, I've always felt tequila was closest to whisky than any other liquor I've had (especially the resposado variety, I guess cause they used the same kind of barrels as whisky)

I would add that Patrón, the silver variety anyway, had a very refreshing taste the last time I had it. There was the dry burn but the aftertaste left me feeling like I'd had something hydrating to drink when the opposite was true. THAT'S WHY IT'S VERY DANGEROUS OMG I almost killed myself on that stuff.

I don't like it at all. It tastes chemically to me, sour or something. I don't even like it in mixed drinks like margaritas. On it's own, it is not sweet or carbonated. It is definitely strong, and IMHO the taste cannot be masked by adding anything else (unlike vodka which to me is essentially flavorless).

It is strong, it's not carbonated, it mixes well into a lot of mixed drinks, it has sort of a ... not citrusy exactly, but juicy? plant kind of taste to it (it's made from agave plants, so) and it does have that kinda "burn" that whisky has. I really like it, a lot of people don't but, whatever.

There's this one type of alcohol that tastes like pine trees and burning. I can't remember what it is exactly, but oh god was it awful.

That was almost certainly gin. Which can definitely be an acquired taste, and a lot of people don't drink it straight.

Gin. You either like it, or you don't. The "pine tree" taste is from the juniper berries. I really like it, but a lot of people don't, it's kind of like licorice, it's easy to understand why people don't like it.

Funny, I had some today. It depends on the brand, it could range from sweet to sharp tasting. People says that a good quality tequila will taste sweeter and milder than a low quality one.

That being said, I don't like it, but maybe that's because I don't like alcohol as a general rule. The funny thing in this case is, I'm Mexican, and I've really tried to like the stuff, but I just can't take a like to it *shrugs*

To me, it tastes mostly like pain, even when it's in a mixed drink. That's why, on the rare occasions when I actually partake, I stick to drinks with either rum, vodka, whiskey, schnapps, Irish Creme and/or Kahlua.

...Man I could go for a Bushwacker right now.
