genetics, luck, and (if you're unhealthily obese), sometimes weight loss.

Weight loss. It depends entirely on your genetics how quickly that will be, but 75%-90% of breast tissue is fat. When you start burning fat, it will go, too. But like every body part, it lingers there until the very last in some people (mostly a desirable result in women, but a pretty undesirable result in men) but in others, it's one of the first to go.

I was told weight loss would help, but I'm pretty sure my mom just said that because she thought I was fat and should be exercising more anyway. (I was a competitive athlete at the time, though, so maybe she was just hoping I'd kill myself working out or something. I have no idea - the woman hated me.)

Anyway, like ariakas said, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't (I'm inclined to believe it really doesn't if you're already at a healthy weight), but even if you do lose weight off them, that skin isn't likely to tighten up, so they'll end up floppier. Is there a particular reason you're looking to shrink them? Maybe there are other options...

Oh lawd, trust me, I've never been overweight and yet they're the first thing to go if I do lose pounds. 'So, you like your new A cup, eh? That's great. Really. ...You know, I heard you started a new jogging routine. HOPE YOU DON'T MIND HAVING NO TITS AGAIN, hahahahah'. <--my body

And yet, I can go down to like 14% body fat and still not have flat abs while I see women in the mid-20% with them. Grass is always greener, man.

Surgery is an option...

Some people when they lose weight, they lose it in their boobs first.
Others have surgery.

Mine don't shrink with the rest of me.
I'm guessing it's a genetic thing for me, so I can't say that yours won't.

My friend notices weight loss or gain first in bra sizes. I notice mine in pants sizes. My jeans will be falling down, and my boobs will still fill the cup. The only change I've seen is in my band size.

I have been considering a reduction.
I miss running without pain and not having to wear ugly bras.

I'd like to know this, too. There have been times where I swear fat migrates from other parts of my body to my breasts, so while I'm buying smaller pants, I need a bigger cup size. And no, this is not a humble brag, because fucking gravity is not kind. A reduction is looking more and more like my fate.

My cup size fluctuates with my weight but I'm rather column-shaped. I imagine that women who are more exaggerated hour glasses or apples won't see as much change because their bodies are predisposed to keeping more excess fat in the breasts rather than spreading it evenly around and taking it off just as evenly.

So, depending on your body type, weight loss might work... or might not.
