Kind of related to the "Dear Past Self" thread above, but it got me to thinking.

It seems like everyone ALWAYS says some variation of "it's not the things you do that you regret, but the things you don't do" but that's not true AT ALL in my experience. I can't think of a single thing I HAVEN'T done that I regret, but there are a ton of things I HAVE done that I regret.

Anyone else agree?

Yeah, I agree.

It's the bad decisions that I regret the most. Sure, sometimes I'm bothered by things that I didn't do, but the things that I've done are the ones that don't let me sleep at night.

This. There are a few things I didn't do where in retrospect I'm like "oh, I should've done that" but none of them are major and it doesn't really matter. It's the things I did do that I still beat myself up over years later.

People actually spout that kind of bullshit with a straight face? Wow, what poor logic. The list of things I've done and things I haven't done that I deeply regret is pretty equal. Hell, some of the things I should've done are because of things I did do ruining my chances. Jesus.

personally, i got some of both.

Like, to some degree, right now, i am regretting getting my Masters degree instead of just quitting after i got my bachelor maybe i'll feel better once i actually have a job oh come onnnn

but I also got some stuff I regret not doing. Mainly things where my anxiety made me wuss out that could've been really cool experiences. Like certain trips I didn't take or invitations I turned down, that kinda stuff. Not huge OMG FOREVER WILL MY LIFE BE RUINED WITHOUT kinda stuff, just stuff that I look back on with a clear frame of mind and realize that everything I was so anxious about was just bullshit.

Given that the things you do and the things you don't do are so interconnected, I don't see how anyone could claim that you will only ever regret things from one category and not the other.
