Submit them to an anonymous confessions/headcanons blog or something on tumblr.

Pretty much what these were made for.

DO IT. PUSH LITTLE KART!

Wow, are you me?

People who enjoy their discussions and arguments a little too much wear me out, so I avoid sharing my opinions as well. The previous anonymous suggestion to submit them to a confessions blog is a really good idea, though! ♥

Post something anonymously. It'll give you a taste of what could happen. You could even reply to this comment with something if you want, just make sure to name the fandom and be specific. And if people are rude, well, if you plan on being on the internet for longer than five seconds, you're going to have to accept that someone somewhere will disagree with something you said and express it to you in a discomfiting manner.

Write it out, and post it as a private post or just let it sit in a Word document. Wait a few days. Go back to it, read it over, re-phrase things that don't flow well. Then wait another day. Do you still agree with your writing? If not, keep the post private. If yes, post it.

Views change. It's totally fine.

This is good advice, too. Views do change. Mine have, having been in the same fandom for 10 years. I can admit that I used to like Pairing 1 because I thought they were hot together, when nowadays I don't think Pairing 1 would work out long-term. /shrug

It happens! And that's okay. But I love the idea of writing meta and then sitting on it for a couple of days to view it with fresh(er?) eyes.

Most of my meta I never bothered to look back over more than once, and I love posting stuff right away so I tend to not proofread enough. I think I'll try this myself from now on.

If you're like me, OP, you can't just post things anonymously. If you take the time to write a shitton of stuff, you'd rather your name be attached to it. :(

But sometimes it's fun sharing these things, and other times, you might have friends who get whoa bent out of shape if you disagree with them.

The only thing I can say is:

1. If you have friends who are so fucking childish that they can't act mature about a fandom-related disagreement (wahhh I don't think character A is like that at allll /DEFRIENDS) then they're not someone you want around you ANYWAY, and

2. It's worth just thinking that in your life, tons of people already disagree with you about THE DUMBEST SHIT, like whether or not the Oxford comma is cool or ridiculous.

Everyone already knows these things, but sometimes it's easy to forget them when you really like someone in fandom and you're afraid of upsetting them because you don't see something the same way they do. But that's life, and it'll happen over a lot of things, some even more out there than fandom. (omg you bought a HONDA?!??!?! CHEVROLET IS THE WAY TO GO MANNNN!!!!)

That said, I personally love headcanon/meta shit. A lot. Like you have no idea. It's so much fun to see how so many different people interpret the same material. You might be surprised that some of your fandomy friends feel the same way I do--and just enjoy seeing things from a different perspective, even if it's not something we personally agree with.

Sometimes fandom discussions can be fun with two disagreeing people, but when things get rocky (which they sometimes do), I highly suggest just saying, "I guess we'll have to agree to disagree." Because there are some people in fandom who have ZERO reading comprehension, and others who are blind thanks to bias and won't listen to anything you say, anyway. But it's okay to agree to disagree. And it can be fun to share. :)

Good luck, OP.

OMG, such a cute bird!!! *bird squee*

Sorry, anon. I am a bird fan who was just too charmed by your picture. :)

Let this anon join you in the squeeing!

I had a canary like that once. He was a lovely little singer.
