That is the magic of Hollywood OP.
That might also have to do with Sherlock having really silly hair and the ST villain having a more ordinary haircut.

Yeah, I didn't realize how much his hair was influencing my opinion of his looks until all those curls were gone. He looks much better with the slicked-back hair.

Can I just say I really wish he had played a Bond villain instead of a Star Trek villain? Because I feel like he was basically playing a Bond villain in ST:ID (in terms of his performance and attitude and manner) and it was weirdly out of tune with the rest of the movie for me and now he probably won't do the same thing in a Bond movie.

He killed the movie for me. He was just the most boring character ever made, physically and personality-wise

(Anonymous) 2013-05-20 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I would agree with most of this. Also, the overly mannered way he spoke just really bugged.

He didn't kill the movie for me and there were some scenes that I liked (mostly when he was beating up people and not emoting) but for the most part I was just like ugh, no. :| This is the first and only thing I've seen him in too so now I'm just kind of confused and wondering what all the fuss is about.

What a coincidence, lol

I submitted a secret yesterday that is basically the exact same as yours.

Guess I'm not the only one who was transfixed on him during Star Trek XD

(Anonymous) 2013-05-20 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmmmm me too OP. Me too.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-20 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Star Trek was the first thing I've actually seen him in, though I am aware of the... fandom. I have to say he does have a very smooth sensibility to him, or at least "Harrison" did. In pics and gifs I always thought he was weird-looking, but his face was actually interesting to see in motion. Something about the blue of his eyes and the way he draws his brows, I think.

His voice is awesome, though. That dragon's gonna sound bitchin'.

ALL OF THIS OH MY GOD. I've seen countless pictures and gifs and he always looked INCREDIBLY unattractive. But for some reason, in motion, he looks much more... well, like you said, interesting. I managed to figure out what I find odd about his face, but watching him move and speak (especially with that awesome voice) really made a big difference.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-21 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
I think Tumblr's other boyfriend Tom Hiddleston also has this problem of being strange looking except in motion, though him I do at least find moderately attractive.

This movie more than anything convinced me that Blumpersnort Crimpledoodle was made to play villains.

Because his hair doesn't look like this:

I can't with his slick backed hair, un-coloured, balding at the temple look. And I don't mind his looks most of the time.

OP

Urgh, see, THIS PICTURE. It's making my libido shrivel up and die, and I swear he looks just like this to me in everything but ST.

The Japanese release date got pushed back, which means it won't come out until after I've left. Disappointed.

I thought he was just OK in Sherlock (mostly performance wise) but he was great in Star Trek. And yeah he looked a lot better.
elaminator: (Star Trek XI: Spock)

[personal profile] elaminator 2013-05-20 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
lol.

I like him as an actor and think he did a good job (excellent at times) in Into Darkness (even if he was an extremely odd casting choice). Do I find him attractive though? Sometimes. It kinda depends on what his hair is like and what angles he's being filmed from, but there were some scenes in Star Trek (mostly when he was wearing the coat) where he was quite striking.

Absolutely. The Coat + the Voice is a lethal combination.

From what I've heard, Benedict bulked up a lot for this role so that could be it.
dancing_serpent: (Sherlock BBC - Sherlock - beautiful face)

[personal profile] dancing_serpent 2013-05-21 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
I'm one of those weird people who actually think he's really beautiful. *g* And boy, did I like his look as Khan - especially with the coat and the mussed up hair.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-21 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh come on. I don't care much about this man (aside from his decent acting), but even i can see that he's just as attractive as any other hollywood star out there. No he's not he-man or anything, but he's really quite handsome.

I don't know, I find his looks off-putting. There's something strange about them that really weirds me off and disturbs me.
It's even worse in the pic frm that thread :
http://fandomsecrets.dreamwidth.org/809235.html?thread=655515923#cmt655515923

It's partly the shape of his eyes and the fact his eyelashes are barely visible. And the shape of his face makes me think of Roswell's aliens.
All in all, nothing is widely out of proportion but the mix just throws me off.
So I can see how other people might feel the same.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-21 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
It's the hair, definitely, he's lovely in that film, and I don't find him attractive as Sherlock.
