I would have hate to see what would have happened if Rapunzel had never got away. Rapunzel aged and Gothel would have had to known that her "daughter" was not going to be around forever. That in order to pass on the magic, Rapunzel was going to need to have a child to pass her powers to and then would have Gothel done? I shudder to think.

Could she have passed on the magic genetically?

I guess she could. Her mom passed it to her by digesting the flower. So, I am guessing the magic could be passed to Rapunzel's child like it was passed to her.

...wow, I really need to see that movie again. I completely forgot that's how the whole thing started...

(Now I kind of want to see a fic where Rapunzel's kid(s) are born with the magic hair, and she cuts it when it gets long enough to look all right, starting a royal tradition of keeping your hair short (either for everybody, just the women, or just the children, depending on which way the author wanted to take it and how the genetics would work there (attached to X chromosome? I'm overthinking this.).)

If the hair can prevent Gothel from getting old, why not Rapunzel? Maybe she would've stopped around the same age as Gothel.

There was no indication that was going to happen though. She went through puberty and did not stop aging.

Maybe the magic works only on things that are wrong? I can't remember how the song went, but I'm pretty sure the word wrong is in it somewhere. Obviously being old is natural, but by the point Gothel was at, she would have had some major health issues and then would have croaked if she hadn't been using the flower (and later Rapunzel's hair). So maybe it didn't work on a young Rapunzel because she was completely healthy, but when she got really old, it would have started healing her too?

But the magic does not stop aging. It just repairs the damage done by aging, but only when it is actually focused on the subject and the song is sung. Rapunzel is only 18. She is still young enough that she is completely fit. There was no need for her to wrap herself up in the hair and repair herself. But that doesn't mean that she wouldn't be able to.
