Do you have a favorite comfort fic? The one you read when you're having a bad day or need a mood boost or distraction?

Related, do you have a genre you go to for comfort? The obvious would be h/c but I know that it's different for everyone.

Depends on what's bothering me. Sometimes cute shippy fic is good, sometimes something really creepy or angsty is what I need. I can't really remember any specifics right now.

Same. Depends on the mood. Like sometimes fluff cheers me up and sometimes it just depresses me even more. Angst, fluff, fix-its, creepy messed up stuff...all is comfort for different moods.

This. And I don't have specific fics I go back and read when I need or want a certain type of fic; I'll usually just look for new stuff that fits the bill. I typically go back to read favorites whenever the feeling strikes me. (Which is usually when I've had a break from a fandom and want to familiarize myself with it again.)

Amateur Theatrics! So good to see it recced, it's the fix-it fic I didn't know I'd need when I started to delve into Kid Loki comics ;_; And it's so surprisingly in-character despite the cavities-inducing fluff (which I don't usually favor, but this one is.just.golden).

But most of my other favorites are kind of embarrassing, like some out-there weirdass pairings or some badly written fix-it fic. I also tend to default to some of my really REALLY old favorites from my first fandom, Harry Potter. Unfortunately, all my favorites from HP are Harry/Voldemort, which....most people would not see as comfort-fic.

There was that one Inception coffee-shop-AU fic, but I've sadly lost the link to it. :(

Basically it was just pure fluff and wildly OOC with the film, but I just really liked it ok.

I don't really have a favorite comfort fic, but epic length Snarry or K/S romance are what I look for. If I can't find new ones I like, I'll go back to the few favorites I have.

There's a very fluffy Criminal Minds series about Reid in a relationship with a fairly minor one-episode character (the bartender from "52 Pickup") and I don't know why but I really, really like it. There's nothing particular about it that stands out, it's mostly fluffy romance moments and that kind of thing, but it's just good and happy and nice and very comforting that way. I'll see if I can find a link sometime.

Quick Like a Bunny, a Sherlock gen fic where the guys from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy come to fix up 221b and help John clothes, etc. Yeah, it's sort of cracky, but it's also very sweet, with a fair bit of talk about John and Sherlock's platonic relationship (John is straight, Sherlock is asexual).

It's not the best writing or characterization and I ordinarily stick to OGC fic only, but something about the low key, slice-of-life way it's written and the overall sense of acceptance throughout is just really comforting.

I'd love to find more fic that hits me the same way, but it doesn't really fit into any of the usual pigeonholes so I"m not sure how or where to look.

There's a few Pokemon fics I have a habit of reading over and over when I need cheering up. My favorite is Alphabet Soup (by Coffee Included on FFN, if anyone is interested), mostly because I love the depictions of hugs and friendship.

My favorite genre when I need comfort is friendship, although I rarely find good friendship fic so sometimes I settle for romance. Humor is good too. Anything fluffy works, really.
