What was it Gina Torres said (Paraphrasing cause I can't find the link) "Skinny Bitches shouldn't be allowed to play superheros."

This is why GT is my goddess.

As much as I love Gina, that's a pretty douchebag comment. The whole ~waif-fi~ trope can be super sexist, but to say that just because you are small/skinny (http://fandomsecrets.dreamwidth.org/809235.html?thread=655525395#cmt655525395) means you can't kick ass is seriously discouraging. The problem with the trope is there isn't enough Jen Walters and Carol Danvers to balance out the Natasha Romanoffs, not that the Natashas exist in the first place.

Seriously.

I'm a little said at Gina Torres now. I heart her so much and wish she were playing Storm, but that's just ignorant and kinda hurtful.

I get called skinny pretty often. I also got called "Headhunter" back in my karate days because I had a pretty vicious backfist. The best--absolute best, hands down--person in our class was this tiny 4'11" waif of a woman, delicate-looking and everything, maybe a hundred pounds soaking wet...and ever ounce of her was fury. I'd take fighting one of the boys over fighting her. She was terrifying and she was strong.

Size may be an indicator, but it isn't the ONLY indicator of strength or skill. Oy.

I too know a tiny waif like lady who is the best in her martial arts class. Ability to kick butt isn't about size man.

Yeah this comment made me realize I really wanted her to play a superhero, but it's a terrible thing to say. It's like those stupid real women have curves arguments that ignore the fact that women have all different body types.

That's terrible and it's made me lose a lot of respect for her if it's true. Fuck that.
