...I bet that counts as piracy somehow. You're watching it when you don't have permission to. Ask the defender-of-intellectual-property!anon for an authoritative opinion, but I bet that's sketchily legal at best.

I'm fairly certain your assumption is correct. That probably counts as a form of digital IP protection (blocking content not licensed to a particular country), and under the US's DMCA, circumventing such things is illegal. Or at least, I can see that argument being made. It is, after all, a way of gaining access to something outside the proper, legally-established channel. However, I haven't come across anything yet to settle it one way or another, but I might just be sucking at the internet atm.

It is. People in the UK have to pay fees that support the BBC. Which is why the content they may then stream on BBC iPlayer isn't actually "free". So yeah, by-passing the region-check is stealing in that you don't pay the BBC for their online content.
