Why would school cancel when most kids can get there and the schools are not damaged? The teachers will be understanding of the children that can't get to school (like those kids that are having an exam, they will probably just not get a grade* on it and end up with the course grade).

A lot of the school busses wont go (but most parents will just drive the kids as far as they can get and then walk them the rest of the way, parents still have work so it is not like they have a choice)

Basically the message we got (and always get) is: Parents should walk young children to school and drive if the school bus is out of service.

*In junior High and High School kids get a course grade and then an exam grade (we have exams in about 3-4 subjects).

I guess I just can't fathom it because we would have closed if there was a chance that the floods could get worse.

The children will be safer at school than at home though... Different cultures I guess?
