MADS (I cannot get over the Danish pronunciation of his name, though. BLOWING MY MIND; how is D silent? How does 'kk' become more 'g' in Mikkelsen??). But he's amazing, and it is great to have him get so much attention, and I've been going through his filmography and it is just wonderful.

And I dunno, maybe Lithuanian childhood plus an adolescence in France, with an incredibly deep relationship with a Japanese-born woman leads to Danish accents? Hehe.

Well, it actually helps looking at at that way for me. I have a similarly varied heritage & childhood, and somehow the mix of my mom's accent, my dad's accent, my birth country's language and my ex's accent, made me speak in a strange fashion and people can never pinpoint my accent.

Yeah, accents can get jumbled. Look at Christian Bale--he's done so many accents for movies, I don't think he knows what his natural accent is anymore (my accent is pretty stable, but I've been told I'm picking up some of my university city's quirks as well).

Dunno about the silent 'd' (apparently Danish's just weird that way) but 'k' and 'g' are practically the same sound anyway, it's just that with one your vocal cords vibrate and with the other they don't...?

Your explanation for his weird accent kind of makes sense though!

True, the 'voice-voiceless' pair. In the whole scheme of a word, though, it throws me for a loop. Especially since it isn't such a hard G.

Another explanation is Americans have no idea what a Danish accent is, haha. But mine is more in-canon, haha.

Danish pronunciation blows everyone's minds, tbh. The logic behind it is... interesting. The short answer is usually "just because" (I'm sure there's an actual explanation, but I've never come across it!)

To be fair, English pronunciations aren't really that normal either. Sharing in the pronunciation confusion, ha.

The languages are sorta related, after all heh
