to be fair the idea of humans being eaten (alive most of the time) just might be too much for some people. that was the case for me for awhile, even though the eating parts are relatively tame (i guess, not like i have a lot of other examples to compare it to) it's more the feeling it invokes i guess?

Yeah, it was the constantly having to watch people being eaten alive that did it for me. While the scenes aren't that gorey, they made me cringe and it happened so often. And then I had to watch someone get digested alive. That was the moment that made me go "NOPE screw this screeeew this."

That, and I don't really like stories that is non-stop drama and bleak hopelessness, but that's beside the point.
