Really? But I thought the kinkmeme was full of Ramsay/Theon OK so maybe that was because I was looking for it but still.

nayrt

It is but you still get a lot of flack for it

(Anonymous) 2013-05-24 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
It's pretty popular over there, but the fandom still jumps on anyone who openly ships it (which is laughable considering that there's barely any non-problematic ships in GoT). The kink meme is probably the only safe haven for people who like Thramsay.

I've never seen anyone "kinkshame" Ramsay/Theon shippers. They shame them for predictably going apeshit over the pairing for no other reason than the fact that they are two under-30 white guys who share more than 2 minutes of screentime.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-24 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
No, they shame them because they're shipping a pairing that's full of canon rape and abuse. Most who ship it are aware that it's purely D/s non-con and problematic and never try to play it off as romantic. However, a lot of the fandom misinterprets that as supporting or fetishizing rape and therefore bring out the kink shaming. I've seen a lot of that on Tumblr.

Well, let's not pretend there isn't a lot of woobifying and glamorizing the pairing to make it more ~sexy 50 Shades fuzzy handcuffs~ and less nasty and brutal, but I see what you mean. And I still feel like most people would not ship it if Ramsay were a) old or b) not white.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-24 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
You ever been to the kinkmeme? It's all completely dirty and hardcore fic when it comes to these two. The only woobifying is of Theon and that's understandable in this case. And people were shipping it even when Ramsay was described as fat and hideous in the books, so who knows. I think anyone who goes for the kind of dynamic between Ramsay and Theon would latch onto it no matter what they looked like.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-24 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
Damn, concerned anons jumping all over the race thing, that no one brought up. You really, really think people would not ship Ramsay/Theon is Ramsay was not white?

this whole SLASH FANS ARE RACIST movement needs to tone down. unless we're choosing to ignore the fact that most anime features asians, or the elephant in the room - there are less minority pairings because there are not enough minority characters in mainstream production

(Anonymous) 2013-05-24 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
sa

Slash fans have a reputation for being racist because they tend to bend over backward to ship -any- two (or more) men within a particular demographic. It got particularly bad (and most obvious) with the Avengers/Supernatural/Sherlock/Dr. Who stuff. There are lots of fandoms with shippable black characters, but I never see slash fans going nuts over them.

Anime/yaoi is another genre entirely. I also wouldn't call anime characters "Asian" as their features are so unrealistic and white people easily perceive them as white.

Um except the OP clearly states she(presumably) is sexually aroused and gets herself off on the rape and torture presented onscreen because Iwan is hot.

How is that NOT fetishizing something problematic?

None of this secret is about shipping the dynamic or pairing as a really interesting psychological study. This isn't about the level-headed fans of Theon/Ramsay that don't fetishize it. This isn't even about Theon/Ramsay shippers as a whole. I personally don't understand it but if people are aware of the problems and are just fascinated by the pairing/characters/dynamic, that's fine. There is nothing inherently wrong with exploring such dark themes.

However this secret is explicitly about being aroused by/masturbating to the onscreen portrayal torture, rape, and genital mutilation.

And that is not cool in my humble opinion.

So what if they are? They are literally hurting nobody by getting off to stuff like this. OP sounds like they're aware that it's wrong and that they wouldn't condone this kind of thing IRL, it just hits a lot of their kinks (rape and violence is not exactly an uncommon fetish anyway). That is how kinks work and there is nothing wrong with that if it pertains to fiction and doesn't involve pedophillia. You are totally kink shaming and THAT, imo, is not cool.
