That's what I was thinking. I found it somewhat annoying the way Joan seemed to find the whole concept ridiculous/not really believe it was possible since the whole idea of accusing someone of lying/being wrong about their own sexuality just rubs me the wrong way, but...I guess it's not really all that surprising.
Re: Sherlock: Yeah, I don't see the show depicting Sherlock and John as anything other than straight. Even the scene with Irene talking about how both she and John are in love with Sherlock was pretty much crap, since they're not going to do anything with it, so... what was the point? Oh, right, there was none.
Oh, yeah, I definitely don't see them ever going there with them, I just think it would be interesting if they did. Honestly, I think that scene was just to mess with the fans who do want them together. Like I said, I thought for about 5 seconds that maybe they would possibly go there but then I came to my senses and realized there's no way in hell they ever will.
Preach it... I'm not a huge fan of canon Irene (in fairness, some of that could be post-canon influence), but the idea that she should be associated with the female character in "Belgravia" is just wrong, dude.
It's the same for me. I re-read Scandal in Bohemia recently because it had been a long time, and I still didn't love her, but that could be influenced by my dislike of her in the adaptations. But either way, she doesn't deserve to be associated with the BBC version.
Yeah, true. The way they handled Irene in Elementary was the best non-canon version I've seen. Even them making her a love interest made sense.
Yeah, I agree. And I know people are speculating that she'll reappear eventually, but I'm glad they didn't drag the Moriarty thing out over the course of several seasons. It'll be interesting to see what they come up with next season now that Irene/Moriarty are (more or less) out of the way.

Yeah... d-:

Yeah...
I've been a Holmes/Watson shipper for literally decades, and with a modern day version, you could have them as an out couple. But nope, God forbid... d-:

Well, yeah... they do that in every episode. This was just more of that same shit.

Ugh, no kidding.
And they'll probably have her reappear, but I kinda of hope they'll show a little restraint and not have it happen right away. I'd love if they'd maybe even go a whole season without bringing her back. I guess we'll see...

It hasn't quite been decades for me (maybe 13-14 years I think? since I first read the original stores) but yeah, me too. And that's what's so frustrating, they could, but of course they never will.

Yep. It's one of the many reasons why I'm not thrilled about Sherlock anymore. I'll probably still watch the new episodes, but I'm definitely not as excited about the show as I used to be.

I'm hoping so! Going a whole season without her coming back would be good...I'm just hoping they'll wait until at least the end of next season at the earliest.
