taotrooper: A girl magician is feeling a bit shocked (Trucy / OMG)

People get scared at different stuff. Even not counting the gore, the series (both media) handles a theme of psychological horror as well. And some people react to that, and some don't. I mean, there's the fact it deals with a primal fear: getting eaten by a predator. This is some animalistic, caveman-era shit going on. Just like some people are scared of the dark (another primal fear) and some aren't, some will react to this theme worst than others.

I can tolerate most gore, and I was almost okay with what I saw, but I had to drop the manga after 12 issues or so because somehow it all made me uncomfortable. I'm not even sure what exactly broke my tolerance point. Was it the angst and fatalism? The gore? The primary fear? The fact that the uncanny valley of the titans' design really freaked me out? I want to give the anime a chance for the memes and see if I can figure it out with a more simplified version.
