I feel the same as OP does and it's not that, I can go back and listen to Sexy Back or Rock Your Body or w/e and enjoy it plenty but his new singles are all lackluster fsr

And hey, it's okay if you don't like it! You are not contractually obligated to like everything someone puts out there. Let it go and move on to some music that you dig.

YMMV (obviously) but one reason I don't enjoy his new music is because there was such a long waiting period between it and his last album. Over the years I built it up in my head, like, "Yeah, JT's new album is going to be better than the best because he's had so much time to work on it!!!1!1!" And then when it came out it was like you said, his new songs sound like his old songs, and they underwhelmed me because of my preconceived ideas. IDK, that's probably just me rambling (sorry), but it might be what someone else is feeling too.

Hmm...do you think it's too similar? (I have no idea as I don't listen to JT.) You already have an attachment to the old music but you feel the new songs don't bring anything different to the table?

Maybe it'll pass, or your tastes are changing. (Either of which is totally fine.)

I actually like 20/20 Experience SO much more than FS/LS.

I actually think 20/20 is a bit more ... chilly-outy and funky than FSLS, so that might be a factor. Also, JT's pop was new and interesting 4 years ago, but it's a sound that's lot more common now (and chill-outy funky pop rnb seems to be atm now anyway, see: Robin Thicke and Daft Punk's singles), so feeling a bit like you've heard it before might be another factor.

For whatever reason, it's not a bit deal or a problem. I personally don't like 20/20 as much as FSLS or Justified, but Mirror happens to be my favourite song from all of them. You like what you like.

Everything I've heard thus far is too...there's no quick beats, no brightness, just smooth R&B ballad-y ness. Same with Random Access Memories.

He's another artist everyone seems to agree that at least is doing something good, even if you're not really a fan of his genre, but I for some reason I don't know why can't stand him or his music.

Who says it's you? I'd read that he was more interested in furthering his acting than doing any more music, so I was surprised when he put out something new. Maybe his heart and enthusiasm wasn't really in it because he'd rather be doing other things but felt obligated to put something out there.
