I disagree that people don't what Usenet is anymore. They may not use it but most of the younger people I've met in fandom the last couple years know what it is. Now if they understand it is another matter...

I've never used Usenet, but I remember having a lot of older fandom friends in the Simpsons fandom who did waaaay back in the show's early seasons and therefore I feel this weird displaced nostalgia for it too. Like, the nostalgia isn't my own, but I feel it anyway.

When was Usenet popular for you guys? I don't think it was ever big in my country... But maybe it just took my family a long time to get a computer.

I'd say around the mid 90s or so. Back then, there wasn't much to the internet and Usenet was way active. It's where early fandoms like X-Files had their discussions, that and listserves.
