Thirded. I mean, if you love Jesus Christ Superstar for religious reasons, you're probably not all that conservative. Aside from playing fast and loose with the representations of the apostles, it's a very ... political take? Not necessarily a critical one, but it does point out things about how Jesus would have looked to people at the time and how he looks to some people now.

Fourthing this. (I came here to say this, actually.) My family was conservative Christian, not Catholic, and we heard pretty much cooooooooonstantly from the pulpit how "of the devil" musicals like this and Godspell were. (We really really really really hated hippies LOL.)

Haha oh man, they showed this movie at my Catholic catechism. Do other denominations have catechism? W/e, point is some communities aren't as uptight as you might think? :0 Not scolding you, just saying.
