I watch it and stuff and I'm halfway through season one and I guess the writing for it is admittedly very solid and it has some nice jokes but. . .I just don't get it. Why do people stan for it so hard?
Is that gonna just be something I won't get unless I stan for it too?

The reason so many people stan is when you get to some of the more subtle jokes. There are a lot of times when you'll get to a part of the show that, when rewatching, you realize is foreshadowing something going on much later in a very subtle way. There are jokes you'll maybe get on a 3rd or 4th viewing. So the show in a way encourages really strong fannish ideas.
But yeah, it is one of those shows IMO takes a while to get into. I don't know if I really enjoyed it as much as I do now when I was where you are.

Also, I agree with writerserenyty. I love that it's one of those shows where you can watch the episodes multiple times and always pick up on new things you didn't notice before, because there's just so much going on. Whether it's just some random sight gag in the background, or you notice a different meaning to a joke after seeing something that happened later on...it's just a lot of fun to watch, imo.
Obviously it's not for everyone, but it's tied with Community as my all-time favorite comedy. I think season 2 is when it really gets going, though, so maybe give it a try until then, and see if you get more into it?
