Could be! I'm in a very different place in life than when I first started writing fic. And no, I don't have an external source. My fanfic is sort of a private thing.

Me too, for the first part. :) My advice is above but over time, too, we develop new talents and sometimes we tire of writing "the same old, same old."

One time, there was an honesty meme, and a friend told me, "You write the same thing over and over. Different setting. Different dialogue. Different plot. But it feels the same." And someone else said, "Your writing isn't memorable. I forget it, like, in a week."

The last one was a bit hurtful, I admit, but damn if that didn't make me think. My way of writing is to write whatever I want, whenever I want. I like sitting down and writing full 'fics in one sitting. I've managed 15k word long fics in one sitting before. I don't polish myself or sit on them for months before I put them out for people to see, because if I did that, I'd wipe away all the inspiration I felt when I wrote them.

Are they perfect? No. But getting people's reactions to the initial (proofread for typos/grammar/etc ONLY) draft is really rewarding to me. I love honest feedback and people can sometimes be hurtful but more often than not I've learned important things about writing through posting my fanfiction online. I could write a guide about it, I swear. I've learned so much. People tell you what they think and you say, hey, this doesn't work. But this does. Interesting! And you might modify your style a little to stop using things that don't work while slowly adding new things to see what does.

Sometimes we crave change and after years of writing I look back sometimes to remind myself that I HAVE grown as a writer. I still write in the same sort of style (descriptive, emotional) but I'm much better at it than I used to be, mostly through trial & error, and a lot of reading to help me see what works for ME as a READER. Because that's also important to me as a writer. :D
