Is she a grump, though, really? I think my issue with getting older is that you're more frequently surrounded by people who suck the joy out of things. It's not numerical age - it's just that some people get it in their head they need to be "mature", or become bitter about things. I mean, looking at my parents it often feels like someone sucked the joy right out of them. It's sad, really.

Maybe I misunderstood! I fully applaud old people still being excited about things, and I wouldn't call them grumps. It's the whole becoming bitter and giving up (even before your time) that saddens me!

You seriously need new friend. Both my grandparents lived into their 80s and right up till the last few years of their lives, they were FIERCE and did stuff that those 1/2 their age wouldn't even have dared.

In 2010 Madonna Buder finished the Ironman Triathlon when she was 80 years old. I'm twenty-mumblemumble and if I tried to do that I'd probably die two steps in.

Working on it. Also I didn't say all of these people were my friends. Sometimes i had to interact with people professionally, or in a hobby-related setting, and I was horrified to learn they were my age or actually younger than me.
