I'm not going to lie - you sound like some of the people I know who concern troll people they know are smokers - even when said smoker doesn't do it anywhere but their own home.

Seriously though, just because someone makes a person smoke in their fic doesn't mean they smoke, or have ever smoked. Sometimes it fits the character, sometimes it fits the setting. After all, there are times when smoking was more common than not smoking, and even times when it was considered *healthy* to smoke. In those it would make *sense* for characters to smoke.
