In this case, however, I see a person whose statements are harsh, promote the ultimate form of Thought Police-like systems (not even simply "put everyone who writes/reads rape and paedophilia into prison", but "put everyone who gets off to this into prison"), who states that there's an "overriding culture that says that [rape and paedophilia] are okay", and who displays poor understanding of the way fiction works.
True, you may not be a troll, but do you really want to argue with me in a reasonable and level-headed way? Hypothetically I wouldn't even mind. One of the difficulties, however, is that we appear to have very different moral grounds, and, since morality is a highly subjective and often irrational thing, I am unsure if we would be able to find a point from which we could start the discussion.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-25 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)And you cry "Thought Police!" and deny the existence of rape culture. Damn, you're good, you got me there.

It would've been slightly more valid if you said "sympathetic depiction of rape=codonement", and even in this case... well, all right, we could argue about this case, if you want.
I did not deny the existence of rape culture, I simply doubt that it's overriding.
And there's a big difference between proposing to put people into prison for reading things and thinking that somebody understands something the wrong way. Seriously, are you comparing the situations?
