(Anonymous) 2013-05-26 06:45 am (UTC)(link)Judging by my experiences with IRL friends on Tumblr, yes, most of the absurdity is a joke. It's much more apparent when they're using that sort of diction in person, but even just knowing their personality can help to recognize tone/irony in text. Maybe some of them are completely serious, and I'm sure the sentiment is real, but they exaggerate for humor.
