While faking your death was drastic, it doesn't make you a terrible person. It's over and you can't change it, so don't let it eat you up. If its weighting on you that heavily then you might want to try to get in touch with these people and 'confess', but otherwise just realize that you could've handled the situation better and move on. I'm sure you've learned a lot since then about what you should and shouldn't do, so focus on those things and try not to make a similar mistake again.
