Call me stupid but what is a yaoi paddle? Is it like one of those paddles you can use for BDSM purposes?

It's a paddle, like those you can paddle a boat with, that someone wrote yaoi on. That's it. Not sure where the idea came from. The fact that some characters ride paddles? But some company made them and they took off. But now that people use them to literally hit or paddle people with, they're outlawed from most cons. Paddles were not limited to yaoi. They also had yuri paddles and others, like in the picture below.
