I agree, and it's one of the most consistent of the Doctor's character traits - even when One was being all old and grumpy or when Seven was doing his cool and calculating persona or when Nine was traumatized into Time Lord PTSD or when Six was angry at every damn thing, he was *still* incapable of seeing something awesome and not marveling at it. Even if I think some incarnations of the Doctor (I'm looking at you, Two and Eleven) played it up a bit much, it's always been something incredibly endearing about him.

Huh, Eleven? I'm curious to know more about this opinion, because I don't see Eleven playing it up much? I was actually kind of disappointed that he seemed to lose a lot of his wonder in the gap between season 5 and 6, for some reason. I always thought Two and Ten were the most vocally *omg everything is so wonderful!!* incarnations.

Which kinda made sense, since Two was the first time he had regenerated - literally had a new lease on life and was looking at his travels with new eyes and some measure of youth and vigor for the first time since he left Gallifrey. And Ten was going through almost the same experience as Two all over again, although his reawakening was from coming out of the war (also, IMO, Ten laid it on a bit thick intentionally, to compensate for his PTSD and loneliness).
