Are you completely incapable of understanding that people are complex?

Having one bad quality doesn't mean every trait they have or even the majority of traits they have are bad; that just means they're flawed. Some people who hold sexist beliefs are nice. Some of them are even good people on other merits.

you don't tell pocs to put up with people's racist bullshit because these racists are nice people, or tell queer people to put up with homophobia or transphobia because hey man these homophobes and transphobes are good people on other merits, do you??

No, I don't. I was simply disagreeing with your idea that people who are sexist are awful people, forever and always.

I don't put up with sexism or racism myself in real life, but I also know that sometimes people just say stupid shit that falls under some -ism category. It isn't the end of the world, it isn't uncommon, and being as angry as you seem to be would be exhausting on a constant basis. My lines for what is intolerable behavior are clearly different from yours.

It's your business who you want to associate with. I personally am capable of talking with and even enjoying the company of people who hold opinions different from mine.

if someone is consistently *ist and doesn't make any effort (however small) to apologize or improve on that front when you gently point their *ist shit out to them, or even worse gets nasty and defensive of their *ism, they pretty much ARE awful people forever and always until they do make the effort to make that change

it isn't "the end of the world" but it's still shit i don't want to deal with so no i won't associate with people who spout it consistently

"well it's hardly uncommon so it's okay" is still a shit reason for tolerating it and toleration only comes across a complacent acceptance of those beliefs and makes it more likely that the people who spew them will do so around you

yeah i'm angry, i'm angry because i deal with this shit on a daily basis and usually ~tolerate~ it or react in a kinder way meant to be gently educational because people get hurt and defensive around angry minorities and call us irrational like we don't have any right to be upset about their casual *isms, but you, anon, are the straw that broke the camel's fucking back this week

i too am capable of talking to and enjoying the company of people with different opinions than mine, wow! life sure would be boring if we were all the same wouldn't it
