Sort of off-topic: why are these specifically fake nerd GIRLS? Don't guys (particularly those who can be identified as "hipsters") also dress up in clothing that promotes fandoms they don't have the faintest clue about?

On-topic: If you don't want to play the game, you can always look up Let's Plays on Youtube.

I think because for guys being identified as a nerd is a bad thing with negative stereotypes (virgin, fat, covered in acne, etc).

Pretty much this. Definitely sexist.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-26 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Because OP is a girl. Why should OP be worried about identified as a fake nerd boy? There are distinct differences between the two stereotypes and only one would be applicable to OP.

Uh, that comment is addressing the general "fake nerd girls" phenomenon, not anything specifically to do with the OP. Hence the off-topic disclaimer.

Because, for the people who complain about them, nerdy is a guy thing, and specifically it's for socially maladjusted guys. It's kind of like finding out that your little brother with Down syndrome is dating someone who only likes him for his money: she's using him and he doesn't know any better.

They imagine that this is happening on a massive scale, mildly attractive women are going to conventions dressed seductively so as to attract the attention of lonely single virgins in order to make them think better of themselves, and those poor, lonely virgins need someone noble and attractive and much better at picking up ladies to come and protect them by shaming the fake geek girls.

Please, OP, don't listen to these jerks. Dress as you want and anyone who corners you with an in depth quiz on Poison Ivy's previous appearances should be promptly laughed at and ignored.

ahahaha yes!

it's all a worldwide conspiracy by those evil whorish women, specifically targeting nice, charming, selfless nerd guys, just to dash their hopes and crush their boners

because the whole concept is entirely, 100% based on dudes not getting laid. that is the central matter at hand in almost all actually-existing debates around "fake nerd girls". it is nerdy guys complaining about girls who are interested in nerd culture but who do not want to have sex with aforementioned nerdy guys. that's the whole thing.
