Mating/mates/soulbonds. A/B/O. Both trends that have virtually taken over my fandoms. And I am not interested in them at all, but there is the kind of observer interest in the general trend.

A/B/O just cropped up one day and now it is EVERYWHERE.

I mean I'm not complaining, I started out on the "wtf is this" side and now I write it, but it IS weirdly pervasive.

I sometimes wonder about those people who write ~educational~ articles about fanfiction for magazines, if they ever actually go to AO3 and come across trends like self-lubricating assholes and just go "what the actual fuck" and then decide to leave that out of their report.

I started to notice more A/B/O in the Spn fandom about the same time my dash got into Teen Wolf, but I'm sure it was around before too.

I'm told A/B/O came out of SPN fandom; it started out as a bestiality fic (werewolf, iirc) and took off from there.

A/B/O keeps trying to rear it's head in my current fandom but I'm glad that it hasn't really taken off, got a few fics with that trend but otherwise it's easy to ignore.

Cannot wait til those two trends die.

I'm sure it's great for people who like that kind of stuff, but if you don't, it's annoying.
