spoilers (that suck) ahoy

That would have improved the episode vastly. Essentially it was an AU based on how "time exploded" when River (the psychopath who was brainwashed by Eyepatch Lady from infancy to kill the Doctor) didn't kill the Doctor (yeah ... it is as messed up as it sounds) and this resulted in a time where everyone slapped combo USB drives/Internet toasters into a spare eye socket just because (I didn't quite get that part); Amy Pond was some kind of high-level spook, and Rory Williams was a grunt soldier; neither of them remembered being married to the other, but when the Doctor revealed Their Twu Wuv (gag me with a spoon) for each other, Rory let his USB stick/Internet toaster electrocute him to save "his" Amy's life...and then it never happened anyway because, hey! Deus Ex "It's Made out of Replicators" Doctor didn't die after all! But Time was somehow "satisfied" with the fact that AI!Lego!Doctor was killed in the Doctor's place, and everything snapped back to quid pro quo like a rubber band.

... have I mentioned lately how much I utterly loathe what Moffat has done to Doctor Who?

You have a good memory. I Didn't Care enough to pay close attention, falling back on the only thing that keeps me reliably tethered to this version of the show; the Doctor being wacky in time and space.

I wish I didn't have such a good memory; the ability to buckle in, hang on, and enjoy the ride without stopping to actually think about anything at all that is happening (or anything that happened thirty seconds previously in the same episode) is really the only way to "enjoy" (I use the term loosely) the whole Moffat-era DW. It's fine to use that sort of writing on a soap opera or a sitcom (which is what Moffat knows), but it does a disservice to SF. IMO.

The eye-drives were because the moment you look away from the Science, you forget them. The Eye-drives acted as a constant reminder that the Enemy Is Out There.

Ah, right, I'd forgotten that. That doesn't excuse what's wrong with the rest of the episode, though. Or that whole arc, in fact. (That was riiiiiight about the time I was starting to have my doubts that watching this era was anything other than a colossal time-sink and nothing more.)

Although! If the Silence really had been "the Science" that would have been a vast improvement, IMO. >:-)

sa again

And I still want to know how the Silence were "totally eradicated" (by the one of them hypnotizing every who watched the Moon landing in '69 into killing them all--thus turning the whole human race into genocidal murderers being the implication) when there were still vast swathes of places on Earth that actually did not "see the Moon landing live."

But I also want to know things like, why did they wear black suits?

I think it was to try to evoke images of The Gentlemen from Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Slenderman from...actually, where is he from, anyway? I first heard of him from the Something Awful forums, but I've also heard about Marble Hornets and Everyman HYBRID, so -shrug- basically the point was to instill fear by reminding people of other, terrifying villains.

I thought they were supposed to evoke the 'We are the government and we're here to help' type imagery but that might be giving the writers too much credit.

Okay, is anyone else really fucking pissed this had no fallout? I don't really mind the Doctor doing scary manipulative things sometimes, when he thinks there aren't any good alternatives. But the way no one, including him, even seemed to be bothered to at least treat that course of action with the seriousness and weight it deserved really rubbed me the wrong way. Especially after the season came and went without any mention of or consequences from the fact every human who watched the moon landing is now a brainwashed killer which someone should have been affected by. It's like what happened to Adam Mitchell in season 1, but a hundred times worse.

It wasnt just for people who saw it live, it's been seen all the time. I was born in '80 and I've seen it more than once.

And by "Science" I meant Silence.

Yeah, I think I started getting a little put off by the plots by that point, but I've really been hit hard by it this season too.

Wow. I don't have an undying love for what Moffat has done with the show or anything, but it's like you actively tried not to understand what was going on in that episode. 0___0

So, explain it to me, then. I am serious BTW; if you can explain anything about that episode that goes against anything I said, then I will retract any and all statements I made above.
