The "fake fan" doing cosplay debate is very interesting.

I have friends who are very into cosplay. Their costumes are gorgeous and they spend a lot of time and money on props, wigs and contacts. They always cosplay characters they love because they mean something on a personal level.

My friends get very angry when "fake fans" cosplay as the characters they love because they are only doing it for the attention. They take a popular character, take sexy photos and get a lot of comments and praise because they are so pretty and lovely and kawaii.

On the one hand, I think cosplay is a hobby, and if you have fun dressing up, go for it, who cares if you are not a "true fan" of the character.

On the other hand, I understand why it´s disappointing when somebody cosplays a character you love just to get attention, especially from men.
