It has always been like that.

Anyway, you are right to say that there is nothing wrong with personal preferences, but that doesn't mean they always need to be said. (like, you might dislike a kink, but commenting with that on a fic or thread dedicated to said kink is just dickish.) Similarly while there is nothing wrong with personal preferences, there can be everything wrong with the delivery of said preferences or the reasoning behind said preferences.

It's not dickish, it's your opinion and there is no reason you shouldn't share it. I hate the fact you can't honestly discuss what you don't like about a fic. It has to be all squee and applause or nothing.

It's more the fact that your discussing it in a thread DEDICATED to that kink or an area for enthusiasts of it.

It would be just as silly as someone going to a sci-fi convention and loudly declaring that they HATE sci-fi and think it's stupid.

I think it is absolutely fine to discuss things you did not like about a fic if said discussion is actually helpful to the author. If it is all about personal preferences (which, lets face it, kinks are) then, yes, you are being a dick by bringing it up. I think it is dickish in general to inject your negativity in a positively focused place, whether that is in fandom, online discussions or real life. If a group of soccer fans are talking about how much they dig soccer, it's irritating to join said conversation just to whine about how much you hate soccer. This has nothing to do with honesty or whatever, it has to do with being able to read contexts.
